Second Grade Educational Curriculum Model

Second Grade Reading- Carden Teaching Method

An essential work of the second grade technique is helping the child achieve complete control over the consonants and all the vowel combinations in reading, spelling, writing, and listening. All of the first grade techniques are reviewed and drilled. Repetition maintains mastery and provides assurance. Rapid growth in comprehension of the text comes because of the steady development of skills. The child learns about periods, commas, question marks, and quotation marks. He recognizes and uses nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs correctly. He develops an understanding of the fundamental questions for comprehension: who, what, when, where, how, and why. Oral reading is not word by word but grouping words meaningfully for ideas. With the self-confidence arising from mastery of phonics for word recognition and word grouping for comprehension, the youngster is fully equipped to begin the work of the third grade curriculum.
